Treatment for sick...

This time is guinea pigs,I think it's very important now because something bad happened and I want to make sure it doesn't happen again
Symptoms
Refusal to eat or drink
Labored breathing, wheezing
Crusty eyes
sneezing
Rough or puffed-up coat
Dull and/or receding eyes
Lethargy, hunched posture
Drooling
Watery diarrhea
Blood in urine
Limping
Hair loss
excessive scratching
Loss of balance
Nose problems
Your pet guinea pig can sometimes be allergic to its bedding.
1.To eliminate this illness, you need to throw out his bedding and replace it with new bedding in a different material..
2.A new location in your home yard may also remedy this symptom.
If your pet guinea pig is experiencing a running nose and is actually rubbing it then you must get it looked at by a professional.
Prevention:Handle your guinea pig with care when caring it out when of it's cage, make sure it's cage is not near direct heat or cold
Breathing Problems
Constant coughing in a guinea pig indicates a problem. If when your guinea pig coughs you hear a laboured breathing or wheezing, you must call your veterinary as he may be suffering from a respiratory infection.
This is also an indication of a respiratory condition. You should get this seen to as quick as you can. This symptom can be caused by lung congestion and can actually turn into pneumonia.
Skin Conditions
certain symptoms can indicate a parasite infection.
A good way to check if your guinea pig does have parasites is to check his skin. You will know he has lice when you see small brown dots. The best way to treat the guinea pig that has lice is to use a medicated shampoo. You should be able to purchase this from your local pet shop or veterina

Preventions:Clean your Guinea pig's every week to keep bugs away
Urinary Syndroms
A healthy guinea pig has vaguely milky white urine.Your guinea pig may be suffering illness if it’s urine is a different colour.A diet high in calcium, can cause this colour change. These colors can actually be indicative of a real problem.Pinks and reds may mean blood in its urine. This can be caused by bladder stones.A sick guinea pig with bladder stones can be quite dangerous. If you think that this could be a problem in your sick guinea pig you should immediately take him to the vet.

Eating
Not eating is extremely serious, as your pet's system will shut down with dire consequences. After as few as 16 to 20 hours of anorexia, liver cells begin to break down and from then on, your pig will only get worse. If your guinea pig is not eating, get to a vet immediately to determine the cause and begin treatment. If your guinea pig appears swollen and the stomach appears distended (a light tap on the side sounds hollow), see a vet immediately. Your guinea pig may have an intestinal blockage (torsion). This condition can be fatal if left untreated
There is no prevetnion
Heart Conditions
Laboured breathing, blue tinge to the lips and snout (only visible in pink skinned pigs) can all signs of heart problems. A vet can give oxygen and check for fluid in the lungs (X-ray). Heart medications extend the life of your pet.
There is no prevetion
Diarhhea
Milder forms of diarrhea (too many fresh fruits or vegetables or a change in feed) are also serious, require immediate treatment (generally replacing fresh vegetables with lots of timothy hay), and with no rapid improvement require a trip to the vet. Severe diarrhea can also be caused by E. coli and giardia. Your vet will do a fecal culture to identify the problem and prescribe appropriate medications
Prevention:Don't give it too many fruits and veges,Wash them well too
Ear Infection
If your guinea pig experiences difficulty walking or holds it's head tilted to one side, see a vet immediately. Prompt treatment is critical for complete recovery. This can indicate a bacterial infection of the inner ear requiring topical and/or oral antibiotics. A vet will also check for parasites and other conditions.
Preventions:Make sure it's cage is clean and make sure you check it's ears every week

Treatment for sick

Today's first aid lesson is gerbil.
Yes if our furry little friend gets sick we need to know what to do
THESE ARE ONLY SOME ILLNESSES FEEL FREE TO SEARCH UP MORE ILLNESSES
Here are some symptoms:
-dehydrations
-not eating
-diahhea
-scratching
-improperly closing it's mouth or not stop chewing
-abnormally thin or over weight
-overheating or freezing
-irritation or inflamation of the skin
-limping
-bleeding nose
External parasites

1.Get an antiparasitic treatment from a Vet
2.follow the instructions closely.
Prevention:Change the bedding more often and clean the entire housing thoroughly.
Broken/overgrown teeth
A broken or even lost tooth is very difficult or ever fatal to a gerbil.
1.A gerbils tooth grows all its life and without being worn down it will grown too long and the gerbil will be unable to eat or drink
2.If worse comes to worse have a vet clip the teeth every time then get too long. The tooth will grown back.
3. Overgrown teeth can be trimmed back to normal length by your vet as well.
Prevention:Make sure to give it soft wood to chew on
Nose Problems
1.If it is proven that you gerbil is allergic to a certain type of bedding switch to another type immediately!
2. Keep switching till the allergy has cleared up. Make sure to wash EVERYTHING in the cage including the cage every time you switch bedding types.
3.The only way to solve a bald nose problem is to move the gerbil and it's cage mate(s) in either an aquarium or a plastic habitat where it can no longer chew on the bars
There's no prevention but you can treat it very easily
Weightl oss
If you gerbil is not eating it's food that there is probably either something wrong with it or your gerbil does not like it.
1.Switch brands immediately!
2.If worms take it to the vet immediately
Prevention:bathe it regularly and watch what you food give it.

Heart Disease
1.Move the cage to a better location
2.If heatstroke is the case that place a fan nearby the cage, also offer cold water and maybe apply a cold towel it
3.If you gerbil doesn't improve a trip the vet is highly recommended
4.Hypothermia is the case in being cold.Warmth must be applied.Wrap your gerbil's cage in a warm blanket to conserve heat(DON'T GIVE IT A WARM BATH!)
5.Take it to the vet if possible
Prevention:Keep your pet in a place where there is no direct wind or sunlight

Fractures
Breaks usually heal straight on their own within a couple of weeks.
1.If an infection or compound fracture is evident then take the gerbil to the vet immediately
2.If only the skin of the tail is missing try to put neisporin on it until it heals
3.if entire end is missing and bone is revealed take to the vet to have properly amputated.
Prevention:Be extra careful when handling your gerbil.Make sure it doesn't fall and keep dangerous items away from it

I'm going to start a small series on this blog about what to do when your pet's sick.
Of course you take it to the hospital but what happens if the animal hospital is far away and your pets in a life threatening state.REMEMBER TO ALWAYS TAKE TO A VET!!!
So far lets start with small animals and move up to bigger animals.
Today it's going to be hamsters
Symptoms of a sick hamster
-sleeping longer(if your hamster is old it is perfectly normal)
-loss of appetite(or eating less than usual)
-no longer grooming itself
-irritable
-moving slowly or having troubles moving
-bald spot or loss of fur(normal in older hamsters or shedding season)
-runny nose teary eyes or wet bottom
-watery or unusually dry poo
Cold or flu treatment:
1.give it bread, bread has minerals that helps your hamster's sinuses(nose)from being less stuffy
2.let it rest give it a more warm or heat containing bedding
3.Make sure it eats,no matter what always check it's diet
Prevention:Never give your hamster a bath in cold water, make sure it's warm.Wash your hands before and after handling your hamster.Keep it's cage away from direct wind, drafts and sunlight

Teeth,Eyes and Bottom
1.buy dry milk/powdered milk
2.give it 1/10 tsp should help your hamster's dental problem
3.If it has a wet bottom, act immediately!!Go to the vet and buy broad spectrum antibiotics.
4.If it's eyes is watery or itchy buy some animal eye drops and put it in it's eyes every day until it looks better.
Prevention:give it a wooden block to chew on,keep it's cage clean,give them soft food(bread) twice a week
Diarrhea or Constipation
1.Don't give it any fruits or veges just feed it it's normal hamster food.Until it's diarrhea clears up
2.Constipation is due to lack of water, give it lots of fresh water and then juice a carrot(carrot juice) and mix it into the water, the carrot has vitamins that helps your hamster's health
Prevention:Don't give it soft food more than once a day, make sure it has clean water every day

Don't be sad if your pet dies,he/she is in a happy place free from harm and sadness.
He/She will watch over you,and you'll be happy knowing you did your best to love and care for your pet
